Aquaculture production represents 17% of the global meat production in the world. In order to continue its growth, aquaculture is turning to sustainable production systems, in particular by taking into account the quality of the environment that surrounds it. Indeed, the aquaculture species live in close relation with their external environment: for an efficient production, it is essential to respect the integrity of this environment. One of the levers of action to ensure this sustainability is to act on feed, which accounts for 70% of the production costs.
Several actions are possible, in particular to limit the releases in the water, among them: to improve the provenance, the quality and the digestibility of the protein, or to limit the input of heavy metals or antibiotics into the feed.
